On August 11, 2011, Mr. Maurice “Buck” Buchanan assumed duties as Chief of Staff, United States Army Installation Management Command, Atlantic Region. He served as Chief of Staff, IMCOM, Southeast Region since November 2004. As Chief of Staff, he is responsible for directing and coordinating the Region primary and special staff in the management all installation assigned to the Region.
Prior to his assignment as the Southeast Region Chief of Staff, Mr. Buchanan served as the Director of Human Resources, Southeast Region, Installation Management Agency. Prior to civilian service, Mr. Buchanan served 28 years as a Regular Army Officer with assignments in Europe, Korea, Panama and the United States. He served as the Deputy Commander/Chief of Staff of the U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command (USMEPCOM), Brigade Commander of the 3d Personnel Group, III Corps & Fort Hood, Texas, Battalion Commander of the 546th Personnel Services Battalion, Fort Hood, Texas, and was the Secretary of the Joint Staff for U.S. Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM). Other leadership positions have been in multiple Adjutant General, military entrance processing and software development organizations.
Mr. Buchanan earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics from the University of Georgia and a Masters of Public Administration from Shippensburg University. He is an Armed Forces Staff College and U.S. Army War College graduate.
Mr. Buchanan has received numerous achievement awards, including the Superior Civilian Service Award, Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal (2d award) and the Meritorious Service Medal (5th award). He is Airborne and Air Assault qualified.
