Colonel Frederick W. Swope, Deputy Director, Atlantic Region

  • COL Frederick W. Swope was commissioned Infantry in 1983 as the Distinguished Military Graduate from Florida State University. After completing the Infantry Officer Basic Course he was assigned to the Federal Republic of Germany were he served in the following assignments; Rifle Platoon Leader, Scout Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer for the 2d Armored Division (Forward) Garlstadt, Germany.  
     
    Other assignments include: S1 for the 3rd Ranger Co, 1st TSB at Ft Benning Ga., Brigade S-3 (tng), and Aide de Camp, 2d Armored Division, Ft Hood TX. Company Commander, A. Co. 4-41 IN (Bradley). Company Commander Delta Co. (ABN), Company Commander C. Co. 2-11 INF; Small Group Instructor (SGI) for Infantry Officer Advanced Course (IOAC), Ft Benning Ga. In 1993, COL Swope was assigned as the Infantry Subject Matter Expert and Combat LNO to the Quick Reaction Force/TF Ranger & 10th MTN DIV in Mogadishu, Somalia during Operation Restore and Continue Hope. Following the Command and General Staff College in 1995, COL Swope was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division at Ft Campbell, KY where he served as a Battalion S-3 (Operations Officer) and as an Executive Officer (XO) for the 2d Battalion, 187th INF Regiment (Rakkasans). 
     
    Following the Khobhar Towers bombing, COL Swope deployed to Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, as the ARCENT-Saudi Arabia Security Force Commander (BN CDR) with the 101st Airborne Division. Upon completion of his assignment with the 101st Airborne Division, COL Swope was assigned to the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) at Ft Polk, LA. From 1998-2001 were he served as the Infantry Battalion Task Force Senior O/C and as the Chief/Senior Live Fire O/C. From June 2001 to June 2003, COL Swope assumed Command of the 1st Battalion (Air Assault) 503rd INFANTRY REGIMENT, 2d Infantry Division in the Republic of Korea. Following the War College, COL Swope served as the Chief of Staff and Deputy Brigade Commander for the 3rd Recruiting Brigade, Ft Knox, KY. From July 2006 to July 2009 COL Swope assumed command of IMCOM-Ft Campbell Garrison.  
     
    COL Swope holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminology from Florida State University and has two Masters Degrees, his first in International Relations from Troy State University, and a second Master Degree in Strategic Studies from the U.S Army War College.  COL Swope is a graduate of the U. S Army War College, the Command and General Staff College, the Infantry Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Combined Arms Staff Service School, the Ranger course, Airborne, Air Assault and the Jumpmaster courses. He has also earned the Expert Infantryman's Badge and Germany Airborne Wings. COL Swope's Awards and decorations include: the Legion of Merit (1OLC), the Meritorious Service Medal (4OLC), Army Commendation Medal (1OLC), Army Achievement Medal (1OLC), National Defense Service Medal (w/BS), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (w/BS), the GWOT medals, United Nations Medal, United Nations Somalia Medal, Korean Service Medal, and the Overseas and Army Service Ribbons. COL Swope has combat tours with the 101st Airborne Division, and the 10th Mountain Division.
